FDF Grantee: African American Policy Forum

The African American Policy Forum (AAPF) is one of the leading organizations in the field of race and gender equality.  AAPF has been supported by PIP’s Fulfilling the Dream Fund, a partnership of donors committed to working together to support affirmative action and other efforts to promote full inclusion of people of color and women in our society. AAPF’s track metaphor, as expressed in this short animated film, has helped many to think about the barriers people of color face.  These barriers are a product of policy choices as well as old and contemporary practices that benefit only a few individuals within a particular group. Assessing these structural barriers is one huge step toward a new understanding of affirmative action policies. The track metaphor allows the audience to see that these policies were created to address and remove obstacles.   In fact, the existence of affirmative action policies is crucial for leveling  the playing field and creating more equal opportunities.
