Special Projects
PIP manages several special projects, providing strategic direction, day-to-day management, administrative support and/or financial oversight. PIP recently supported the following projects:
- Allied Voices (Science First) - Advanced discussions of national solutions to global warming.
- Bold Concepts - Coordinated the development of American government- and economic-reform proposals.
- Contemplating Mapping Project - Helped guide philanthropic communities on how to approach continued involvement with contemplative practice.
- Council for Global Equality - Advancing an American Foreign Policy Inclusive of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity. Supported efforts to create a stronger American and international voice on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender human-rights concerns. www.lgbtfpp.org
- Dream for Darfur - Supported advocacy and strategic communications aimed at encouraging China to use its leverage to press Sudan to create peace in Darfur. www.dreamfordarfur.org
- Environmental Education Project - Coordinated a public-education campaign about environmental projects.
- Legacies of War - Supported a volunteer-driven effort to preserve and digitize narratives for an exhibition highlighting the effects of war on Laotian-Americans. www.legaciesofwar.org
- Long Island Community Labor Organizing Project - Supported civic engagement in working-class and low-income communities in Long Island.
- National Immigration Bond Fund - Helping immigrants remain in their communities and with their families while seeking due process in America's courts. http://immigrantbondfund.org
- Promoting Civic Engagement - Identified the attitude and policy changes required to address future demographic and social conditions in America as baby-boomers begin to retire in 2006.
- Seven Years in San Diego - Documented lessons in Urban School Reform.
- Smart Start - Coordinated the development and implementation of strategies to organize advocacy and support for pre-school education.
- Social Justice Project - Coordinated the development of online resources to enable the philanthropic community to more effectively support social justice projects.
- Linx Lab - Assisted this project to diversify and broaden citizen involvement to redress national and international issues of corporate abuse of the environment.
- PEAK Oil - Helped support the filming of an energy conference to be used to educate the public about energy resources.
The Council for Global Equality formerly the LGBT Foreign Policy Project organized a lunch discussion at the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force's Creating Change conference in Detroit in February. By highlighting his experiences as U.S. Ambassador to Romania, Michael Guest discussed the supportive role that U.S. embassies can play in reaching out to LGBT leaders in often hostile legal and social environments in other countries.
